Myanmar Maid Training in Singapore — Inside EMK Maid School, Yangon
Every helper we place trains at our own school in Insein, Yangon—taught by former Singapore domestic helpers in oral English, oral Chinese, infant care, and elderly care. She arrives already prepared, which is why we can deploy her as fast as in one week.
✅ Own EMK Maid School | ✅ Ex-Singapore Maid Coaches | ✅ English + Chinese | ✅ 55-Lesson Curriculum | ✅ Trained Before Arrival
Most maid agencies in Singapore do not train. They match a helper to an employer, process the paperwork, and step away. We take a different approach. Since 2019, every helper we place has trained at EMK Maid School in Insein, Yangon—our own school, staffed by coaches who were themselves domestic helpers in Singapore. They teach oral English, oral Chinese, infant care and elderly care from lived experience. By the time your helper flies, the training is already done. That is why our placements settle faster, last longer, and why we can deploy in as fast as one week.
Why Training Matters When Hiring a Myanmar Maid
The three most common reasons placements break down are:
-
Communication failure — the helper does not understand instructions or is afraid to ask
-
Caregiving gaps — the helper has not been taught how to recognise illness in a child, or how to assist an elderly person safely
-
Unpreparedness — the helper arrives without understanding Singapore's household norms, safety expectations or legal obligations
Most agencies address none of these. They place a helper and hope. When problems surface weeks later, there is no foundation to fall back on.
Training addresses all three before deployment. A helper who can understand instructions, recognise a fever in a child, or respond calmly to an elderly parent's needs is worth far more than one who arrives unprepared—and far more likely to still be with you a year later.
Inside EMK Maid School
EMK Maid School was established in Insein, Yangon, in 2019. It is our own training school, and every Myanmar helper placed by A1 Housekeeper has passed through it before flying to Singapore.
What makes EMK different:
- Our teachers are former Singapore domestic helpers.
- Our coaches are ex-Singapore maids with real infant care and elderly care experience. They have worked in Singapore households—with working couples, with elderly parents, with young children. They know what the job actually demands, because they have done it. They teach from experience, not from a textbook.
We train for the household you actually have.
- Our programme is built around a specific profile: a Singapore family with a working couple, an elderly parent, and two young children. That is not a hypothetical—it is the household most of our employers live in, and it is what the training is designed for.
- We train in language first.
Our main focus is language: oral English and oral Chinese. A helper who can understand instructions, ask questions and communicate concerns settles in faster and makes fewer mistakes. Chinese-language training is particularly valuable in multi-generational households where a grandparent speaks Mandarin at home.
What Every Helper Learns At EMK
Every helper completes four core areas before deployment.
Oral English
Communication is the root of most placement breakdowns. A helper who cannot understand instructions will make mistakes—not because she is careless, but because she was never given the language to succeed.
Training covers:
-
Understanding and following household instructions
-
Asking questions when something is unclear
-
Communicating concerns before they become problems
-
The everyday vocabulary of cleaning, cooking, laundry, marketing and safety
-
Understanding Singlish, so she can follow what family members actually say

Oral Chinese
Many Singapore households include an elderly parent who speaks Mandarin or a dialect at home. A helper who can understand basic spoken Chinese can communicate directly with Ah Mah or Ah Gong—and that changes daily life for everyone.
Training covers:
-
Basic conversational Mandarin for household instructions
-
Greetings and respectful address for elderly family members
-
Common phrases for meals, medicine, rest and outings
-
Listening comprehension, not reading or writing
Infant & Childcare
For families with young children, caregiving training is not optional—it is essential.
Training covers:
-
Feeding, hygiene, and bathing routines
-
Safety awareness in the home
-
Recognising signs of illness in infants and young children
-
Age-appropriate care for two children at different stages
-
Responding calmly in emergencies
Elderly Care
H3: Elderly Care
Many of our employers are caring for ageing parents. Myanmar helpers are often well-suited to elder care, but suitability without training is not enough.
Training covers:
-
Mobility assistance and fall prevention
-
Medication reminders and basic health monitoring
-
Respectful personal care
-
Recognising when to alert the employer or call for medical help
-
Communicating patiently with older adults
Taught by Coaches Who Have Done the Job
Our teachers at EMK are former Singapore domestic helpers. They have worked in Singapore households. They know what a working couple expects at 7am, how an elderly parent behaves on a difficult day, and what it feels like to arrive in a new country without the language.
That is not a marketing line—it is the reason the training works. A coach who has lived the job can anticipate what a new helper will struggle with, because she struggled with it herself. She teaches the phrases that matter, not the phrases in a textbook.
When your helper arrives in Singapore, she has already been prepared by someone who has stood where she is about to stand.

How Training Makes One-Week Deplyment Possible
Most agencies quote four to eight weeks for a fresh Myanmar helper. Part of that delay is paperwork. But part of it is training—training that often happens after the helper arrives, adding weeks to the front of the placement.
At EMK, training happens before departure. Your helper completes her language and caregiving training in Yangon while the MOM paperwork is processed in Singapore, in parallel. The two tracks finish at roughly the same time. By the time she flies, she is already trained and the documentation is already submitted.
That is how we can deploy in as fast as one week for straightforward cases—not by skipping steps, but by doing them at the same time.

What Employers Say About Our Training
Testimonial 1:
"The training made a real difference. Our helper could understand simple instructions from day one, and she was already comfortable with my elderly mother. That would not have happened without preparation."
— Emily, Ponggol.
Testimonial 2:
"We had a helper from another agency before. The difference in communication was obvious within the first week. This helper asks questions instead of guessing, and that has made everything easier."
— Veron, Circuit Road
