How to Read a Myanmar Helper's Bio-Data
A bio-data is usually just a sales document. But at A1 Housekeeper, it is a record of 1 to 2 months of direct observation. Here is how to read between the lines and find the facts that matter.
OPENING PARAGRAPH
Every agency will send you bio-datas of available helpers. They all look similar: a photo, a list of skills, and some work history. But a standard bio-data is written to make the helper look good. As an employer, you need to know which details to trust, and which questions to ask.
Because we own EMK Maid School, our bio-datas are different. We don't just interview our helpers; we live with them for 1 to 2 months while they train.
How to Screen a Bio-Data Effectively
1. Start with your "Veto" Characteristics
Before you read her work history, check her basic profile against your non-negotiables. If you have a strict requirement, save yourself time by filtering for it immediately:
-
Physical Requirements: Height, weight, or age bracket (e.g., some employers prefer a helper under 35, or a certain height to reach high cabinets).
-
Skills Set: Does she have formal nurse aid training? Can she handle a large dog?
-
Budget: Does her expected salary fit your budget?
If she passes your veto criteria, then you look at the rest of the profile.
2. Don't Panic Over Employment Gaps
If you see gaps in her employment history, do not immediately assume the worst. The reality in Myanmar is that unemployment is high, and many people stay home to help their families or take on informal, daily-wage jobs. A gap in her CV does not mean she is a bad worker; it simply reflects the economic reality of her home country.
3. The "Reason for Leaving"
If she left her last three jobs in Singapore because of "family reasons" or "going back to Myanmar," ask for specifics. Was it the employer, the helper, or the agency?
4. The "Remarks" Section
This is usually written by the agency. Look for specific phrases like "can cook Chinese food" or "experience with dementia." These are verifiable skills.
How A1 Housekeeper Screens Bio-Data
We do not just send you a database. Because we own EMK Maid School, we already interviewed her in person, checked her references, and tested her skills. We use our 1 to 2 months of daily observation to give you an honest, detailed profile.
When we send you a bio-data, we will tell you her weaknesses as well as her strengths. If she is not a good fit for your household, we will tell you that too—it saves us both time and protects our reputation.
BEYOND THE PAPER: HOW WE REALLY KNOW THEM
How A1 Housekeeper Knows Our Helpers Deeply
Most agencies write bio-datas based on a 15-minute interview or whatever a broker tells them. We write ours based on living and training with the helper at EMK Maid School for 1 to 2 months.
Because they live at the center, we observe things you cannot see on a piece of paper:
-
Daily Attitude: Is she an early riser? Is she hardworking when it comes to cleaning and maintaining the common areas of the training center? Does she have a positive attitude when given chores?
-
Actual Cooking Skills: We don't just ask if she can cook. We watch her in our cooking classes and taste her food. We know if she can handle a wok, chop ingredients safely, and follow a recipe.
-
Adaptability and Acclimatization: How does she react to a new environment? Is she comfortable around pets (like our training center dogs)? Does she adapt quickly to new routines?
-
Temperament Match: We get to know their personalities. Is she fast-paced and energetic (ideal for child-minding)? Or is she calm, steady, and patient (ideal for elderly care)?
-
Emotional Readiness & Reduced Homesickness: The 1 to 2 months at our center serves as an acclimatization period. Leaving home is hard, but by living in a structured environment with peers and coaches first, they process that transition early. By the time they land in Singapore, the initial shock of being away from home is behind them. This eliminates homesickness and ensures a much surer, more confident start with your family.
-
Comprehensive Health and Well-being Safeguards: Because the helpers reside with us during their training, we oversee their daily well-being and ensure all mandatory medical screenings are completed and verified on-site in Yangon. This strict pre-deployment health protocol guarantees that the helper arriving at your door is medically fit to work, legally cleared by MOM, and fully ready to start her contract without unexpected medical or administrative disruptions.
When we send you a bio-data, we will tell you these specific details. We know her weaknesses as well as her strengths.
