The Real Timeline for Hiring a Myanmar Maid in Singapore
As fast as one week for a new Myanmar helper to land in Singapore. One to two weeks for a transfer maid. Here is how the timeline works, why ours is faster than most agencies, and what can still cause delays.
Most employers are told four to eight weeks for a new helper from Myanmar. We usually say as fast as one week. The difference is not optimism—it is structure. A1 Housekeeper owns EMK Maid School in Insein, Yangon, where every helper is interviewed, documented and trained before she flies. Because we control the front end of the process, the Singapore side can run in parallel rather than waiting in sequence. This article explains how the timeline works, and what can still slow it down.
New or Transfer Maid?
Situation 1 New Maids from Myanmar
New Myanmar helper (Recruited from EMK Maid School)
Our Typical Timeline : As fast as 1 week from selection to landing in
Singapore
Situation 2 :Transfer maid (already in Singapore)
Our Typical Timeline: 1 to 2 weeks from selection to first day of work
Both figures assume three things: you have sat for the Employer Orientation Program (EOP), your documents are ready, and you complete your own obligations promptly. The single biggest variable is not our side of the process—it is how quickly the employer acts.
Note: These are typical ranges for straightforward cases, not guarantees. MOM processing times, document readiness and flight availability all affect the final figure.
WHY OUR TIMELINE IS SHORTER
Why One Week Is Realistic for Us
Most Singapore agencies do not employ anyone in Myanmar. They buy candidates from local brokers or sub-agents, who source from villages and pass documents up a chain. Every handover adds days. When something is missing, the request travels back down the chain and up again.
We removed the chain. A1 Housekeeper owns EMK Maid School in Insein, Yangon. That changes the timeline in four concrete ways.
We recruit directly, without brokers
Candidates come to EMK, are interviewed by our staff, and are documented on site. There is no third party to chase and no information lost in translation between agents.
Documentation is prepared in Myanmar before she flies
Passport details, medical results, employment records and consent documents are completed and verified at EMK. By the time the work permit application is submitted in Singapore, the supporting paperwork already exists and has already been checked. This is where most agencies lose one to two weeks.
Training happens before deployment, not after
Your helper completes her language and caregiving training at EMK while the MOM paperwork is being processed in Singapore. The two tracks finish at roughly the same time. If training happened after arrival—as it does with many agencies—it would add weeks to the front of the placement.
Paperwork runs in parallel, not in sequence
In a typical agency, the sequence is: select, apply, wait for approval, arrange bond and insurance, book flight, wait for arrival. In ours, the bond and insurance are arranged while the application is pending, and the flight is provisionally booked. Nothing waits for the step before it unless MOM requires it.
NEW HELPER — DAY BY DAY
Hiring a New Myanmar Helper: Day by Day
You review bio-datas and interview shortlisted candidates. Because our candidates are already screened and documented at EMK, there is no waiting for information to arrive from Myanmar. You can do the interview by video, from your phone.
Days 1-2 — WhatsApp Live Video Interview, confirmation and MOM's Authorization
Employer interviews screened maids, decides, and authorises the agency to transact with MOM.
What causes delay: Employers who interview without a clear brief. Decide upfront what matters most—childcare, eldercare, cooking, or English level—and screen against that.
Employer's Orientation Programme
If you are a first-time employer, you must complete the EOP at least 2 working days before the work permit application is submitted. In a one-week timeline, this must be completed before you interview prospective maids.
What causes delay: Waiting for an EOP slot. Book it before you start interviewing, not after you have chosen a helper.
Days 2-4 — Work permit application and In-Principle Approval
We submit the application through MOM's FDW eService with all Myanmar-side documentation already in hand. Most applications are processed within about a week; straightforward cases are often faster.
What causes delay: MOM requesting additional documents or clarification. This is the one variable we cannot control—but because the paperwork was prepared and checked at EMK, it is far less likely.
Days 4 -7 — Bond, insurance and flight
The security bond, medical insurance and personal accident insurance are arranged, and your helper's flight from Yangon is confirmed. Much of this is already in motion while the application is pending.
What causes delay: Flight availability from Yangon at short notice. Booking early in this window helps.
Days 7 to 10 — Arrival, Settling-In Programme, first day of work
Your helper arrives. First-time helpers must complete the Settling-In Programme within 7 days of arrival, excluding Sundays and public holidays, and cannot legally start work until it is done. We schedule the SIP around her arrival date so the window is never at risk. We then bring her to your home and conduct the orientation ourselves.
What causes delay: A helper arriving on a day that compresses the SIP window. We avoid this when booking the flight.

Hiring a Transfer Myanmar Maid: One to Two Weeks
A transfer maid is already in Singapore, so there is no flight, no Myanmar-side documentation, and usually no Settling-In Programme if she completed it during a previous placement. The process is shorter—but it carries a different risk, which is speed without diligence.
Days 1–3 — Selection and history check
You review her record: why she left, how long she stayed, what her previous employer says. This stage should not be rushed even though it can be. A transfer helper with a poor history will cost you far more time than a careful three-day check.
What causes delay: Nothing—this stage is fast by nature. The risk is skipping it.
Days 3–10 — Work permit application
A new work permit application is required even though she is already in Singapore. Processing is usually faster because her records already exist in MOM's system.
What causes delay: Issues in her previous employment record—unpaid salary claims, premature termination disputes, or a demerit history.
Days 10–14 — Release and deployment
Her previous employer must release her, and the transfer must be completed properly.
What causes delay: The previous employer delaying the release, or unresolved salary or bond matters. This is the most common cause of a transfer stretching toward two weeks.
Note on SIP: If your transfer helper has already completed the Settling-In Programme, she does not need to repeat it. Verify this before assuming she can start immediately.
WHAT CAN STILL CAUSE DELAYS
What Can Still Slow the Process Down
One week is realistic, not guaranteed. These are the variables that can extend it.
1. The EOP booked late
The most common self-inflicted delay. In a one-week timeline there is no slack—the course must be booked immediately.
2. MOM requesting additional documents
Rare when the Myanmar-side paperwork is complete and consistent, but it can happen. We respond the same day.
3. Flight availability from Yangon
Occasionally constrained at short notice. We book early within the preparation window.
4. Slow employer decisions
Every day spent deciding during selection or responding to requests is a day added. In a one-week process, employer responsiveness matters more than in a six-week one.
5. For transfers: a slow previous employer
Release delays are the main reason a transfer stretches from one week to two.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
What You Need to Do to Keep It at One Week
-
Complete the EOP before you start interviewing. It removes the biggest dependency entirely.
-
Have your documents ready upfront—passport / NRIC, income documents, address proofs of family members below 12 and above 67 to qualify for Concessionary Levy of S$60.00 a month.
-
Decide your priorities before you interview. Rank childcare, eldercare, cooking and English /Chinese level.
-
Respond to us the same day. In a one-week timeline, a two-day reply is a two-day delay.
-
Do not rush the transfer maid history check. A fast placement with the wrong helper costs far more time than a careful one.
